December Moments

December was a good month for us, so many things to keep us busy and help us feel the Christmas spirit.  School was out on the 17th so we had plenty of time for baking & decorating cookies, breads, wrapping presents, and having fun.

Thank goodness Santa comes to our ward party every year!  I love not having to wait in line at the mall for the chance to sit on his lap.  Luke was so excited to see him and even though Lyla was a little nervous, watching Luke go first made it easier.  Even Ruby got a turn.

Here is Emily with two of her BFF’s.  Funny thing, one of her friends in the ward, Isabelle goes to a different elementary school.  Her cousin Melanie just happens to go to that school and they are in the same class.  The three girls get along great together.

Here is Ruby with her little buddy in the ward, Kyle.  They were due 6 weeks apart and ended up arriving only 6 days apart.  Kyle’s mom and I are friends and our older kids are close in age too.  These two make such a cute couple already!

With an entire week off of school before Christmas, I knew we’d have to find things to do to keep the kids out of trouble.  We’ve never really done gingerbread houses before so I decided to give it a try.  I got these kits from Bountiful Baskets and they were perfect.  We paired up Luke with Ally and Lyla with Emily.  They had so much fun and the houses turned out pretty cute.

Christmas was small but good this year.  I had asked the older girls for some ideas so the money I could spend would go to something they really wanted.  I knew Luke & Lyla would be excited for pretty much anything & Ruby would never know the difference.  Ally got two dresses from Down East Basics for church.  Emily got two Wii games, Just Dance & Just Dance 2 which are so much fun even for those of us watching.  Luke got a Clone Wars double light saber that lights up, spins and makes lots of noise.  He yelled, “This is the best Christmas ever!”  Lyla got a pretend kitchen that she loves and Ruby got a toy that attaches to her car seat.

We quickly took this next picture before leaving for church this morning.  Luke was not happy with me because he had to stop playing his new DS game from grandma but I just love Ruby’s smile.

It was a very nice Christmas season.  I was especially happy to stay home this year.  Traveling is getting harder with so many little ones.  It takes an entire day to get ready to go anywhere then I spend the whole time keeping track of socks, shoes, jackets, hair clips, etc.  Nobody sleeps well while we’re gone then all the work to unpack when we get home.  It’s definitely more work for me than anyone else so my present was not to worry about it.  The weather was perfect here and we enjoyed being together.
