Surgery This Week?

2011 has been interesting so far.  I have been in the pediatricians office and/or the urgent care four times in two weeks and three of my kids are on antibiotics.  Nothing major just seasonal illnesses like sinus infections, strep & ear infections.  'tis the season!!

I THINK I am finally going to have the final surgery on my eye this week.  I actually hesitated posting anything because it usually changes but we'll see how it goes.  Back when we found that it was basal cell, the surgeon told me that she wanted to have a skin cancer specialist do the actual removal.  Then she would do the repair of my eye lid.  She had a doctor that she wanted to coordinate with but unfortunately they didn't take my insurance.  We tried a second doctor but no luck.  That's when she told me she would go ahead and do the whole thing.

A few days before it was scheduled, she called me and said that she was feeling a little nervous about the procedure.  Even though she could do it, it's not her specialty to remove the cancer, just repair the wound (and make it look good).  I decided that if she was feeling nervous, I certainly wasn't going to insist that she do it.  We post poned so we could take some more time to try and find a skin cancer specialist that would accept AHCCCS.

Finally we did and once again went through the preapproval process to make sure that everything would be covered.  Then we had to coordinate two surgeons schedules who are on opposite sides of the valley and do not have privileges at the same location.  Basically it comes down to this...

On Wednesday I have surgery with the skin cancer specialist to remove all of the cancer.  Once everything tests clear, he will patch me up and send me home.  Then Friday we will do the second half with the plastic surgeon to repair everything that had to be removed.  Sounds crazy, I know but both doctors are assuring me that they have done this before and everything will be fine.

Even though things have been up and down over the last SIX MONTHS and are still constantly changing, I am happy with the way everything is going to work out.  Having two doctors that are specialists and doing exactly what they know best makes me feel like everything is going to be alright.

Now if I can just keep my family healthy for a little while so they can take care of me for a change!  I won't be out of commission too much.  I'll have a patch on my eye for awhile & won't be able to drive.  I shouldn't lift the baby either but luckily I have several helpers around here who can carry her around.

Wish me luck!

  2. Good luck! I hope it all goes well. I still haven't seen your beautiful Ruby, and I really want to! Hmmm...when will that be? My schedule is crazy, but surely there must be a Sunday we could come visit or something. Anyway, missed ya at Christmas time. Hope all is well!
