Time Out for Women 2011

Recently, I was able to get away for a couple of days and attend a conference called Time Out for Women.  I. LOVED. IT.  As much as I LOVE being a Full-Time-Stay-At-Home-Devote-Every-Minute-To-My-Family-Mom, sometimes I need a break.

I was able to round up several friends & family members who also wanted to enjoy some girl time so we were able to take advantage of the group rate and have lots of fun.  The conference was also hosting a Time Out for Girls for young women ages 12-18 so Ally and her friend Sienna were able to come along too.  To really enjoy our Time Out we stayed in three rooms at a Hilton downtown and had one big slumber party.

The speakers were all inspirational and it gave me the boost I needed to know that I CAN do this and I AM going to make it.  Even Supermoms have bad days once in awhile.  The theme was Choose To Become and we could all decide what we wanted to choose to become.  Mine was a more patient mother.  Patience is a virtue that I have not mastered yet and I know I need to work on.

Here are my pictures from the weekend.  Anyone who was with me and would like a copy of any of them, email me and I'll send you the file.  We started out with Sarai's birthday dinner at Applebee's.

It was fun to discover that Selena Gomez was our waitress.  Not really but she looked just like her and was even willing to pose for a picture with Ally & Sienna.

As part of the conference registration we got the cutest tote bags and the girls got new journals.

Here's our whole group, minus Ally & Sienna.

I love this next picture.  After the conference we walked down the street to a FUN store called Charming Charlie.  Ally & I have been here before but it was the first time for most everyone else.  It's such a fun place to go and find all kinds of cute necklaces, earrings, rings, headbands, watches, purses, shoes and more!  A perfect end to our girls weekend.  Here we are waiting for the light rail to take us back to the hotel with our cute Time Out tote bags and our Charming Charlie bags.

I don't have a picture of the first time we rode the light rail the night before but I can't finish this post without mentioning our adventure.  We had used the hotel shuttle to get to the convention center Friday evening but trying to ride it back to the hotel after the conference was not that easy.  Quite a few women were staying at the same hotel and the shuttle could only fit about 10 or 12 at a time.  Some of our group went back in the shuttle while the others waited for the next one.  After realizing we weren't going to be able to make it back on the next trip either we decided to try the light rail.  Why not?

While we were each taking our turns and honestly paying for our ride with the teller, the train came and immediately left without us.  We waited for the next train.  And waited.  And waited.  And waited.

Here we were a bunch of small town, Mormon Moms out on a Friday night in the middle of downtown Phoenix waiting for a train that we hoped would take us back to our hotel.  FINALLY it came and we hoped on.  Immediately the stench hit us and we saw there was no where to sit.  As I looked down the train car I saw a huge splatter of puke and it was disgusting!  There were some open seats down there but, yuck.

So we huddled together amid the other passengers, some also had interesting oders & intoxication levels and made our way back to the hotel.  We found our stop and then had to run over to the hotel in the rain.  We were wet and tired but had a fun story to tell.

Luckily the light rail ride on Saturday evening was less eventful.  After our goodbye's to those who live in the valley and a quick stop for dinner most of the group made our way back up the mountain for home.  We had told our husbands we were in no hurry to come home and with a late night storm had to drive a little slower than usual, making it home about 11:30pm.

It was a perfect girls only weekend!
