Summer Fun

Just as we started feeling settled after the move our ward had a fun Pioneer Day celebration.  Around the 24th of July every year as a church we celebrate the arrival of the LDS pioneers in Utah.  Both L.J. and I have several ancestors who made that amazing journey.

The primary children were asked to dress as pioneers and they had a parade or "trek" for them around the school ball field.  Luckily my Dad was coming into town just before so I asked him to bring me my Mom's collection of clothes and he also brought a small handcart that he made a few years ago.  It has been used at many a family reunion and ward party.

Here are the cutest pioneer children EVER:

Emily wasn't as excited as the others to dress up but she was a good sport.  Luke's buddy Tyson walked with us too.  They are too cute!

Cousins and Friends all ready for the Trek.

Savannah helped Emily give the younger kids rides in the handcart.

Luke and Lyla had to take off their shoes and rest their feet after the long hot trek (around the ball field).

After the trek there was a yummy dinner cooked in dutch ovens and cool watermelon for dessert.  This next picture is going to be one of my all time favorites.  I was taking care of Ruby when I looked up and saw this.....

Luke LOVES watermelon and he was enjoying every bite.
