To Our Jehovah's Witness Friends

We have lived in our house for over 7 years now and in that time we have had a countless number of visitors from the Jehovah's Witness faith. When ever the weather is nice outside, they come out in droves knocking on doors and sharing their message. One Saturday we had THREE sets of visitors in one day! We live on the very 1st street in our neighborhood, right off a main road. Everyone pulls in, parks and then we're one of the 1st doors to knock on.

I have no problem with this. I try to be polite and let them know that we have a very strong faith and then of course they always ask what church we belong to. I do get a little irritated when they proceed to tell me what I believe in. How do they really know what I believe? They only know what their minister tells them that I believe. I try to let them down easy, close my door and get on with my day.

A couple of weeks ago I saw a van pull onto my street and several very nicely dressed ladies get out and start walking off in pairs. I thought, "Oh, not again."
I've already tried a "No Soliciting" sign in the window but that doesn't work. They're not selling anything. I've had an idea for some time now to put another sign next to that one. Something that will very nicely tell them we're not interested. That afternoon I quickly hopped on the computer and came up with this:

To Our Jehovah's Witness Friends:

2 Nephi 25:26

"And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, and we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins."

Please knock on our door if you would like a copy of The Book of Mormon.

So far I haven't had any takers. I actually forgot it was there and later we were feeding dinner to the missionaries from our ward. When the doorbell rang I sent Ally to answer it knowing it was time for them to arrive. She comes back in the kitchen very quietly and said, "Mom, it's our Jehovah's Witness friends." I was shocked. I went to the door and it's our cute missionaries having a good laugh. They had taken their tags off to play along. They said they loved my sign.

I'll leave it up for awhile. At least until July when it will be too hot again for proselyting.

  4. Love your idea...I laughed so hard at the birthday picture of Lyla with Luke running through. It really is so typical of a boy his age!
